DandyWebDesign Technical Pages
'Web-programming' is too big a subject to consider sensibly without breaking it down in some way, this website is all about this, and so to make it manageable it has been subdivided into the categories below. This categorisation is not rigid, indeed many aspects of web-programming overlap into several of these categories.
The information here does not purport to be the sum of all knowledge, there are many other websites out there that will give far more detail on any particular subject, but it does have a good range of detailed information, with many working examples, covering most aspects of website creation, setup and maintenance. The ultimate goal of this website is to give you enough information to go out and do this for yourself. But if you are in a hurry or do not have the time or skills to do it yourself then get in touch with who may be able to help you.
- Webserver Setup
Setting up a home webserver - Apache of course!
If you want to do more than serve static pages through your filesystem you will need a webserver. If you are using a Linux system then you will have Apache as standard, but if you are on Windows then you can install the win32 port of Apache which works well. Then you will be able to test your website properly as well as enable additional functionality such as server side includes and CGI programs.
